NMD: Muleskinner has arrived:)

NMD or should I say NUMD as its not new, but new to me. Muleskinner #003 has arrived. Refinished black by Andy Mueller in 2019. Adirondack Top over Hard Maple. I want to thank Peter O'Connor, Andy Mueller for making this happen and a shout out to Brian Carroll for his positive recommendations of Andy's work. I get some more photos later but for now here are the 3 in the stall. Pava right, Black A2z middle, Muleskinner left. So 2 black Mandolins and a Black Mandolin that is not black.

Sounds GREAT!!!! The only straight up comparison I can do is against the Pava. Both are Adirondack over Maple. They are a little different and I attribute it mostly to the builders. That said, what I keep coming back to is that the Pava is a little scooped in the mids and the Muleskinner is a little fuller in the mids. In Guitar terms with what I am most familiar with, I would say the Pava is a D-28 and the Muleskinner is a D-18. I am blessed to have both as its not one is better than the other, I can honestly say both have a wonderful sound and different enough to enjoy both. My thoughts are that the differences are down to a song, one might sound a little better for a specific song and vice versa. Whereas the Black would go better with a category of music like Old -Time or Celtic
