Recently bought an Ovation mandolin but struggling to find a decent gig bag it'll fit in to properly.
Any recommendations please? Something half-decent and travel proof.
TIA

More than one person has told me that gig bags are the best place to keep all the pieces when you instrument gets smashed in a fall. A hard case is much better, if you can find one. I'm only keeping the gig bag that came with my Kentucky KM-1000B in case I decide to sell it (which I probably won't).

My Reunion Blues offers better protection from all but crush (ie, run over by a car) injuries. They’re pricey but much more streamlined than a Travelite or similar Gator. I would never, ever, trust it for baggage check (and because of the streamlining wouldn’t have to) but, it would probably hold up OK…in most such situations…

I have one of the foam gator bags, inexpensive, reasonably sturdy. You would not want to baggage check it, safe enough for most other situations. I carry a fender acoustic/electric in it. I wouldn't trust one of my "good" mandolins in it, I want a hard case for those.

Thanks all for the input. I've just bought a Gator semi-hard case which looks as if it'll fit my needs. Seems to be a cross between a gig bag and a full case, certainly well made.
Appreciate your help.
Best gig bags that I know of: Glenn Cronkhite Custom Cases in Minnesota, and Blue Heron Softshell Cases in California. Both are made in USA, guaranteed forever, and repaired for free (I think) if they ever need it. Both companies will custom build a gig bag to fit ANY instrument. Check their web sites.
