    Default Janvier Piétrapertosa mandolin duets

The discussion on Janvier Piétrapertosa here has inspired me to get my printout of his "Mandoline-Album" out. The full album is at Michael Reichenbach's site here (thanks, Michael!):

    https://www.mandoisland.de/noten2010...trapertosa.pdf

There are 27 pieces in total, of which 10 have optional second mandolin parts. I've recorded three of these duets, and attach the extracted pages for these three pieces for easy reference.

Default Re: Janvier Piétrapertosa mandolin duets

Here are three more pieces from the same Piétrapertosa book: two mandolin duos and one solo (with my own added accompaniment). Extracted scores attached.

CIAO! - célèbre valse italienne (arr. Janvier Piétrapertosa Fils)

This is a curious tune, which was published very widely around 1900, without composer attribution but always described as "célèbre valse" ("famous waltz"). IMSLP has a piano score and suggests that the tune may have been composed by Vittorio Monti of "Czardas" fame, possibly with "célèbre valse" as part of its title from the time of first publication. A copy of Monti's piano score is for sale at Abebooks but it is not clear from the cover whether he claimed authorship or was just another arranger. At some stage between then and now, the tune has fallen out of the standard repertoire and is now rarely if ever heard. A shame, really, as it's very enjoyable.

Scans of different piano settings are at IMSLP and at Gallica:

My recording is based on Pietrapertosa's solo mandolin setting, with my own tenor guitar accompaniment based on the chords used in a mandolin orchestra setting by Carlo Graziani-Walter, from the Nakano Archive.

SANTA LUCIA - Célèbre Chanson Napolitaine (arr. Janvier Piétrapertosa Fils)

This is a straightforward but effective duet arrangement of Santa Lucia.

SUR LA MONTAGNE - Tyrolienne de Auguste Darcaigne (d. 1926)
    (arr. Janvier Piétrapertosa Fils)

This lively tyrolienne was published in 1898 for piano -- the original can be found as a free scan here:
