Thread: Tuning on a 10 sting mandolin (Psalm 33)

  1. #1

Default Tuning on a 10 sting mandolin (Psalm 33)

Seeing the Monteleone Grand Artist 10-String in the classifieds had me singing psalm 33:

“Praise the LORD with the lyre; make melody to him with the harp of ten strings.”

    Yes, I play at church

My question is....do you think that mandolin is tuned CGDAE or GDEAB?

More than likely it is tuned CGDAE, as one would expect in a mandolin/mandola, and judging by three wound courses and two unwound.

    Beeeeutiful instrument.

I played an early Monteleone 10-String at Mandolin Brothers back in the eighties. Like others with standard mandolin scale I recall the C-string left something to be desired. I would tune it up to D.

It is pretty common with the 10 string instruments I have played. Its why I went to a fan fret.
