Default Denver Folklore Center has new owner

For those in Denver and surrounding areas or doing business with the long-time store Denver Folklore Center this announcement was made this morning:

    To our Wonderful Customers:

We are excited to announce that the Denver Folklore Center has a new owner – Ian Dehmel. After almost seven years of stewarding this incredible Denver cultural resource, we have decided the time is right for us to retire. We do so knowing the store will be in terrific hands under Ian’s leadership for many years to come.

Founded on 17th Street in 1962 by Colorado Music Hall of Fame inductee Harry Tuft, the Denver Folklore Center will celebrate 40 years serving the needs of acoustic musicians in our current location on South Pearl Street this summer. And the store isn’t going anywhere!

Ian joined our staff three years ago and has served as our Manager for the last year. He is an avid Clawhammer Banjo player and can play most of the instruments sold at DFC. More importantly he has customer service as his top priority and enjoys meeting and speaking with as many people during the day as possible.

Plus our luthier of more than 25 years, John Rumley, will continue to offer his superb repair services on premise under the new ownership.

We thank each of our loyal customers for welcoming us when we purchased the store from Harry and for continuing to support us, even through the challenging years of the COVID-19 pandemic. Stop by and say hello to Ian when you have a chance. We plan to become customers of DFC once again, so you’re likely to see us around from time to time.

    With our sincere thanks,

    Claude Brachfeld

We grew up going to that shop when Harry owned it, there, and Swallow Hill just up the way from there. So happy that it will continue to introduce more young and old to great acoustic instruments.
