Thread: Kentucky 500 Bracing

    Default Kentucky 500 Bracing

I was looking at the bracing on my 2012 Kentucky 500 and discovered there is no brace on the E string or bottom side of the top there is one one the top or G string side. Looking with a light and dentist mirror it doesn’t look like there ever was one, I bought it used, should I have it braced, or leave as is, so far the top is holding up.
    Thanks

There are a couple of Kentucky's with no bracing, or tone bars. The arch of the top is the strength, if it looks good, I wouldn't worry about it.

Actually I think it was models of The Loar that didn't have any bracing.

As for the 2012 Kentucky 500 with one brace, assume it was built that way on purpose and it's now 11 years old and hasn't failed. Why mess with it?

Thanks Mike, my memory is not what it used to be. I knew there were some out there.

"... should I have it braced...?"

Reckon that would cost about twice the value of the instrument...glad it's holding up as is...

Yup, the Loar LM 700 was built intentionally without tone bars/bracing. Agree with the others: given the expense to add one, if it sounds good and has held up this long I’d leave it as is.
