    actually the back, sides and neck are all sugar maple... amazing wood! when I chose the one-piece back all I did was choose an unfinished blank - no stain to show the grain. boy was I surprised when Paul sent me an image of the back after staining... wow!

    thanks to you all for your supportive comments... though all the credit goes to Paul. can you imagine all the years of solitude and dedication that go into making something like this? unreal...

    Well I assume sugar maple can be quilted, no? I can see it is definitely flaked but leans a bit toward quilting in my estimation.

    Jim, quilted figure mostly occurs in western bigleaf maple, I have never seen it in sugar maple. A beautiful piece of wood non the less.
