    Default Re-using case stickers

I am planning to let go of my '98 Kentucky KM200S (first mando), but I kind of still want the stickers that have accumulated on the case (this has been my travel mando).

Can stickers be successfully removed and re-used? Anybody ever do it? I'm thinking a hair dryer, maybe, but will the glue still be good?

I know it's a little dumb, but it's my sentimental side showing. I've even thought about keeping the fixed up but still crappy cardboard case it lives in.

I've never gotten the glue to adhere to a new case. Have used either rubber cement or 3M spray glue, depending on what I have sitting around.

My method for removal has usually been a sharp knife lifting one corner than slowly peeling the sticker off. Your idea of the hair dryer is probably better.

I have successfully done this. I just did a good job peeling the stickers and then spray adhesive worked fine.

or get a new case to sell the mandolin with and keep your old case with the stickers!

idk. maybe that's too obvious to be clever. If so, I'll shut up!

No, I've definitely considered that. I have an extra gig bag. I sewed padding and cushions for the case, yadda yadda, and it does have "character". But in the end, it's a pretty crappy case.

I have spray adhesive, so I might go that way as well.

If you have enough room put it in a freezer, it usually loosen glue quite nicely.

Just a note for anyone reading this thread in the future, please remove the instrument from the case before heating it or freezing it. Thank you and carry on.

Obviously, stating the obvious, obviously. But better safe than sorry.

BTW, when my old van died, I was saddened about the loss of my Red Knuckles And The Trailblazers bumper sticker. I didn't know about any of these methods, but do not/did not/never will have a hair dryer. And it wouldn't have fit into an oven or a freezer, either.

I wouldn't have a hair dryer either, except my daughter left it behind when she moved away. I mainly use it to remove labels from Amazon padded envelopes to reduce weight for re-use and suchlike.

    Nice bumper sticker, btw.

Hairdryer will soften the glue and it might even stay on the sticker. If it doesn't stick, you could place doublesided tape on the glue and cut the edges of the sticker free. Voilá.

Careful with the hairdryer. As soon as the sticker is free, it will crumble very easily under heat.

Thanks. Ain't it a peach? I found the photo at the Hot Rize fb page and used it because they aren't available at their merch page. In fact, the merch page is shut down. Sigh ... I hope I still have one in my collection of stickers in deep storage. I've seldom if ever put stickers on a case. Just don't like the look. And you see what happens when put on a vehicle - which, by the way, that was not on the bumper, but somewhat askew halfway up the left rear corner by a dent. (Yep, like a knucklehead. ) So they collect dust - not really, they're in a big manila envelope ... somewhere ... I do have thst T-shirt, though. And also. a Slade black-on-black T-shirt. That is truly hilarious - and not just a black T-shirt, but with a design on it - in black. Perhaps best of all, a RK&TTB fly swatter, autographed by all four of them. Slade's signature took up one whole side of the handle - natually. They were indeed brilliant marketers.

Hey, I'm a knucklehead too! My original sticker had simply worn away. I was happy to pick up my latest "I'm a Knucklehead" sticker when I last saw Hot Rize (farewell tour).

As an old fart who probably will leave his wife and kids with way too much nostalgic junk, I have since decided to take photos of my memory-laden ephemera and store it on my hard drive. At some point we hoarders will have to relinquish this stuff. See George Carlin for more details.

I bought one of the Crossrock fiberglass cases a while back and my Kelly A5 lives in it now; really like the case, and love the mandolin. Anyway, I’ve still got the old, well stickered, Golden Gate case. I always just figured I’d hang onto it until I realized I really never was going to use it again, then give it away. I almost actually did that a while back here when a forum member was looking for a case just to store his mando in at home, but it turned out he had an F style and the GG is an A. Phewww! Now I may be able to salvage a few of my old sticker favs!!
