    Default 1913 Embergher ID

    Hey All,

Just got a new old mandolin, wondering if any of you knowledgeable folks could help me correctly identify exactly what I have. From what tiny bit of research I've done, seems like an "Orchestra" model, but with extra inlay. Pics and a video clip attached, thanks so much for any information.

I believe it is a student model B. The two student models have that style of headstock. It sounds very nice.

There are a few pictured on this page: http://embergher.com/instruments-mandolini-da-studio/

Lovely mandolin and playing! Enjoy....even the highest notes on the full length fingerboard!

Yes, as Jim said, a student model style B. "I Fiori" as it is sometimes referred to. It has a distinct headstock shape typical for only A and B models and the flowers on the scratchplate. A nice instrument that can sound very well if setup properly (and we can hear it from your video). Some people go a bit further making a new bridge with a bone for it, like the ones on model 5 and above (this one has an original one, by the look of it), which make it sound even better.

I am also guessing that your fretboard was replaced at one time since one the pre-1917 models the fretboard did not cross the soundhole and extend to the other side. I agree with Victor that the bridge is probably original or else a very exacting copy since it has the little butterfly cuts. That was to allow the bridge bottom to contour to the slighty-induced arch of the top.
