Default Brand spanking new member!!! Alternative 'Picture' posts...

Hi everyone... I've checked out 'Mandolin-Cafe's instructions on sending Pics, and that's pretty common & normal. However, can I place a 'Link' within the message-body, like... "someexternalsite.com/somedirectory/somepic.jpg", as I'm not sure if 'Mandolin-Cafe' otherwise puts a size limit on the actual photo displayed to the viewers?? Thanks.

Hey Glenn! Welcome to the Cafe! I'm not sure, but try the link icon, the blue one next to the envelope.

If you go back through the old posts you'll find many that have images that are no longer available. That's because the address that was specified in the link no longer exists. Those are now unavailable as a resource to future scholars looking for information about the mandolin. That is why I appreciate people that simply upload the images to the Cafe. When I'm no longer on this earth some young person that wants to find out about a vintage instrument they will be able to see the images as well as read the text. If you feel the need to link to another site such as a photo sharing site use the Insert Image button on the button bar. You must use a URL and everyone must be able to see that URL with no restrictions. Linking to a local hard drive will only be visible to you.

The size limit we've set is around 19MB for uploads which is pretty massive--excessive, really-- so there should very rarely be a denial of an upload for size reasons. It's always best for continuity of the message to upload an image to the site if you want to be sure it stays. Anything linked to another site, another forum, eBay, Facebook, etc., particularly a hosting site, is subject to disappearing, and disappear they do if that account or site goes away or if they change the path to the image and don't redirect the address.

Welcome to this supportive community. Don't be shy about asking questions,
Robert Johnson's mother, describing blues musicians:
"I never did have no trouble with him until he got big enough to be round with bigger boys and off from home. Then he used to follow all these harp blowers, mandoleen (sic) and guitar players."

(O.P. here)... Thank you all for responding, and I fully understand what you are saying!!!
I was 'surprised' that a 19-MB file is accepted!! hahaha... However, what I think I meant, was
that what ever physical size sent, and there is a 'Thumbnail' within a Post, does 'Clicking' on that
'Thumbnail' take you to the 'Full-Size' image, or a still a partially(?) reduced size by 'Mandolin-Cafe' ??

Why not give it a try and see what happens? I see you've already posted a link in another thread.

I'll do it for you. Here's the same image you posted the link to imgur with. It's the same size as it is on imgur but the difference is this one will always be available here.

YIKES!! This should be a Guiness World Record, or at least a Cafe World Record: a dozen or so accordions and 40+ banjo mandolins in one photo! Mike, please tell us what, where, when?
