Default The Life And Work Of Lloyd Allayre Loar

I just received Roger Siminoff's book on the works of Lloyd Allayre Loar. I have not yet dived into it, but the "first-look" impressions I get are that this is a lifetime, masterwork, labor-of-love that will be of great interest and value to all of us who play arch-top, F-hole mandolins and guitars and of particular interest to those of us who have owned and/or played signed Loar F5 mandolins and other instruments that were created during Loar's amazingly short tenure at the Gibson company.

My hat is off to Roger and his prodigiously risky efforts in putting this first-and-last-word project together. Here's lookin' at you Mr. Siminoff... so many thanks!

    Glassweb…

I’d be remiss if I didn't thank you for your comments. I hope you get value from the contents and come away with a rich and personal understanding of who Lloyd Loar was.

    Very best,
    Roger

Thanks so much Roger... as someone that has owned and played many Loar F5s, Loar-era snakeheads and F4s over the last 50 years your book is like a wish that has finally come true. Many of us talked about it, many of us wanted such a book, but you're the one who finally DID something about it and for that we should all be grateful.

Mr. Loar's innovations were significant then and, sure enough, remain so to this day...

I was privileged enough to get a copy just before leaving for vacation. Didn’t get a chance to read it at the lake but, I dove in after we got home. As I said in an earlier post, Mr. Siminoff has done all the research for us and tells a wonderful story about the ups and downs of a man with so much more to offer than the improvements to the mandolin. Mr. Siminoff makes his task of research gathering as interesting as the life of an amazing musician and “Acoustic engineer”! The personal experiences with Mr. Loar’s widow are touching, I’d have loved to have shared a fruit cup on that couch!
