Thread: What is or was this?

I think some people will bid high on faulty stuff that they understand isn’t good if they happen to have a victim -i.e. customer in mind. Others, of course, just may be ignorant and get stung. The early bidding went high from the latter group. Folks who know what they’re doing just use snipe bids, at the very end.
Plus, and it’s hard to be sure, there is such a thing as shilling, if a vendor knows there’s possibility of high returns.

I just noticed it says "Gibson" not "The Gibson." Not that it is either...

Yeppers. Note that the winning bidder played it smart - well, as far as strategy goes - by holding off till the last minute. Someone showed up out of the blue, pushing it from $1100 to $1500 with just 21 seconds to go. Too soon. The winner - er - top bidder - swooped in with a dollar raise at just six seconds before auction end.

I wonder if he saw this disclaimer:

Instruments are untested. This item may contain additional flaws or missing parts that are not apparent to the seller and therefore, not included in the listing. See photos for condition.

Items contained in this listing may be broken, dirty or have missing parts that the seller did not notice or note in the item's listing ...

Well, at least the turning [sic] pegs turn.

Those Gibsons with dual end pins bring a premium price. Plus, this was the year when the tailpiece went on before the stain. Collectors notice these things.

    Gulp!

This is one of the weirdest I've seen.
I'm thinking I should really stop checking out these auctions altogether ... but they do exert a certain fascination.

Schadenfreude is the word I'd use. That pertains not only to the (un)lucky top bidder but also to the poor thing itself.
