Thread: String recommendation

    Default String recommendation

I'm experimenting with some alternate tunings for my baritone ukulele (20" scale). I want to tune to E A C# E, an open A tuning. I have a set of standard D'Addario Nyltech strings tuned to D G B E (26 36 24w 30w) on the instrument now. Two questions:
Can I tune up 2 semitones without issue on these strings?
Can you recommend a set of nylon tenor strings (DGBE) that I could use on my shorter scale baritone ukulele which would tune to E A C# E with about the same tension?

    To clarify:
Can you recommend a set of nylon tenor guitar strings (DGBE) that I could use on my shorter scale baritone ukulele which would tune to E A C# E with about the same tension?

I would just try using the strings you already have. Tune D up to E, G up to A, B up to C#, and leave the E as is. Must string can handle a step and a half without a problem.
