I have done a couple searches of past threads and am becoming more discouraged about buying a pickup. I would like to continue to use a mic but feedback is an issue. There is so much info. Just when I think I have an idea of what I want I read some other threads and second guess myself.

I play in a Gypsy Swing/Bluegrass type band. I want a pickup that is removeable (preferrably with a carpenter jack, no bridge). There are no music stores too close by to try anything out but I may get an opportunity over Turkey Day when we head into the city (depending on selection). I'll be using a Fishman preamp and possibly buying it if I like it, if not I will get a LR Baggs PARA DI.

I have narrowed it down to a few choices:

    1. McIntyre External: Probably the first choice. It has the type of removable system I like and seems to be commonly used without many problem. Do they make a feather external? I would go with that If I could.

    2. Dean Markley Artist Tranducer: Lots of good feedback. I may be able to try this one out. How does the attached cord hold up? Seems kind of odd.

    3. K&K Twin: people seem to like these. I like the idea of 2 contact points. How does the velcro affect finish?

Any other info would be helpful. I'll probably end up just getting one and Hoping I'll be happy. If not selling it shouldn't be too difficult.

Between your choices I would recommend the McIntyre or the K&K. #They are probably both going to give you similar results since both are stick on piezo pickups. #I am not a big fan of Dean Markley at all. #I also think you will be vary happy with a Baggs PARA DI and you can shape the tone to suit your likings. #A good preamp is a necessity with any piezo pickup and the DI will do a good job.

    If F-model mandolins have F-holes then why don't A-model mandolins have A-holes???

Thanks for the input. I am leaning towards the McIntyre.

Any other input or pickups to check out?

The Baggs bridge pickup is great. It is similar in design to the Fishman, but much better.
