Brian Dean is starting the finishing process... and working on the pickguard...after that, it's just the case and shipping...

...he said he strung it up in the white, and described the bass as "creamy"...

Anyway, just thought I'd share the excitement...

I'll bet your excited... I'm jealous... I like his philosophy and his instruments are beautiful. He's one of several builders on this forum that I wish I could afford to put an order in with.

Paul- I was drawn to his philosphy and aesthetic too. I can't wait to hear how it comes out...that's always the mystery, with any instrument, but especially when there was no opportunity to try another by the same builder beforehand. A gamble I decided to take. I had to sell the Trillium to do it, but it had become clear that I really needed the shorter scale.

Stephanie-- I"m sorry to say the IV kit is stalled...I had another big (non mando related) project come up that has been taking all my time of late. I really want to get back to it, though. (you should tell me when you need any of those tools back!)

I'll try to post a pic or two in progress...

Cool news, Karen! I'd love to see the pix and hear about the sound.

Excellent looking instrument Karen ... I'll be waiting to hear the review of the sound / playing attributes. One question - will this be a tailpiece or a pin bridge when finished?

Interesting you went to that much shorter a scale - Has Brian figured out a string combination yet for it?

Dion- I will certainly post a full/detailed review of the sound/playing attributes once I have it in hand. This will be a tailpiece (he has his own design).

re: shorter scale... the OM I made has a 20.5 scale, and it works very well for me. I've been stringing with 16-26-36-46 and it sounds and plays great. Not sure yet what the Dean will want.

That's going to be one beautiful instrument. I love the Celtic knot peghead inlay and the 2 point body. Very nice!

OK, now I'm starting to feel a LITTLE less guilty about badgering the Tril away from you (but just a little).

Looks like that one will be a keeper! Can't wait to hear it.

you didn't badger me, Scott... play that Tril' in good health! Meanwhile, here's another teaser... the back is curly cherry -- with purpleheart trim and a black pinstripe...

A beauty indeed! I was very happy with the piccolo he made me. I would love to get an OM from Brian as well! He's certainly one of the finest young luthiers out there, and as far as I can tell he gets better and better all the time! Let's wish Brian many happy years of building, and you many years of enjoying your OM.

    WOWWWW!!!!!

Your Otter is TREMENDOUS!!! I was wondering about it all this time, since you mentioned the design, back when... Fabulous!!!

Good call on the armrest, too. By now everyone knows that I think they're a necessity <GGG> but having BD do a nice one just to match... toooooooooo coool.

What a handsome instrument!!! If I had a personal 'animal device' and someone made me one this cool, I'd have it tattoo'd on me. I've never wanted a tattoo, and I don't have a personal animal device/logo, but if this was mine, I'd wear it. Way too cool.
    And well deserved, too.

Funny you should say that, Stv. I first found this looking for a tattoo design.

I have another that I think I've settled on for the tattoo, but this one was absolutely right for the OM. (although seeing it on the OM certainly makes me think twice!)

yeah, the armrest should be cool... I don't have one on my current OM, but I think it's good for protecting the top and leaving it freer to vibrate and ring. OM's are often too deep for the standard armrests, so I figured I might as well just roll it in.
