    Susie:

I am always amazed at the clear tone you manage with your playing which really allows for the musicallity of your playing to shine through. Always fun and always easy on the ears. Love it !!!! Great Bonaparte's Retreat !!! Keep it going !!!

    Brad:
Excellent rendition of Forked Deer Brad, ya burning it cool and smooth. !!!! Nice, very nice !! Excellent arranging between your guitar and mando parts !! Love how it flows.

Thanks Harlan, always great to hear from you. I'll try to do more recordings soon. Right now I'm having a bad cold.

    Hi beanbass,

You can find the recordings of these tunes at:
    The Mandolin Project Website

Thanks for the pointer, rmcintos. I just uploaded my version of the Andy Griffith Theme on that Yahoo site. It starts out on dobro, but I took a mando solo after the first verse.

After I uploaded, I was wondering: is that project site strictly for the project song of the month, or can any home-recorded tune be upoaded? I don't want to step on any toes here.

    beanbass,

you can upload any song that you have personally recorded of yourself or your group. if it doesn't fall under one of the songs-of-the-month, i'll stick under "miscellaneous musings 2006". all types of music are welcome as well as all instruments. just upload the song to the yahoo groups site as you did, i'll move it over to the Mandolin Project mainpage.

    cheers,

I almost decided that I didn't have time to learn Forked deer either, mostly because I've never heard it and it seemed quite hard with all those 8th notes. But when I listen to the recordings it doesn't seem to difficult anyway, so I'll try even if it's already april.

Hey steamerman, that's a very nice one!! I really couldn't make this tune easier to play and as usual I couldn't learn it as it was written, I never manage to get the tunes into my head that way, so instead I improvise something. I really like your recording, nice improvisations!!!
The others are good too, very smooth and nice picking.

Nice job, Steamerman- great recording all throughout, and I really liked the ending- I've been trying to figure out how to put together endings like that!

Bluegrasstjej- you're ennistraveler, right? Very nice work- I can't wait until I can improvise around a tune that well! Nice tone and flow, too.

    Brad- wow.
Follow your bliss- it knows where it's going.

Hey folks, check out my recording of Fishin Hole (Andy Griffith Theme) in the Miscellaneous Musings 2006 section. It starts out on dobro, but I took a mando solo after the first verse.

That is a really tight rendition, Michael. I've been away too long.
Did you play all of the instruments? What are you recording with?

I posted up a song I wrote called 'The Rutabega Song' for the Misc Musings section, complete with disclaimer; I can't get my sound card and Audacity to agree...the sound card keeps stopping and lurching on multiple track play/record. Oh well, there it is anyway, a fun little ditty...

James P, thanks for listening, I'm glad you enjoyed it. Yes, I played all instruments on the tune (dobro, mando, guitar, banjo, bass). The mic is an Oktava MK-319 into a Presonus Blue Tube preamp, into the FMR Audio RNC compressor. I recorded with Cakewalk Home Studio 2002 and the soundcard is the basic Creative Soundblaster on my computer. Thanks again for listening.

If you would like to hear more, I have a page at http://songramp.com/beanbass

Thanks, Michael. I recently added an MK-319 to the quiver. Love the warmth, at least compared to my AKG. Still can't quite make it sound like you do, tho'.

Really great solos all around, but the dobro and mandolin breaks especially.

    What's next group???

    beanbass,

wow! #just got around to listening to your "Fishin' Hole" recording. #great stuff. #that was alot of fun to listen to. #nice use of all the instruments--well rounded. #although, i would have liked to have heard another round on the mando. #definitely worthy of multiple listens. #thanks for sharing.

ps everyone, the poll is up for May. no point in trying to learn something for April now.

Thanks for posting version of Frank Wakefield's Catnip. I hope it wasn't too electric.

Hoffman, I'm pretty sure you can convert tracks to mp3 w/ iTunes.

JetAudio is freeware available at www.zdnet.com. i use it to convert all types of audio files to mp3 or wav. it'll probably do it for you. you may have to convert it to wav first. it's free anyway, so it's worth a try.
