Hmmmm... what's this in front of me on my desk? Why, it's a check for a deposit commissioning Chris to create my new F4!
Great choice: my decision to have Chris build my F4 was one of the best choices I've made. This August I will have had it a year and it keeps getting better and better. It has wonderful balanced tone (deep resonant bass too) with amazing sustain. Set up with medium Thomastik Infeld strings and I'm in mando heaven. It will be worth the wait.
Judith thanks for sharing the gorgeous pics of your octave and best wishes for a very happy future with it.
And kudos once again to Chris Baird for his talents!

Well Judith... what's the story... do you have it yet? Have your hands been too busy playing to type and post pics? Enquiring minds want to know!

Nope, not yet. Chris apologizes for the delay - there were a few more small things he wanted to tweak, which required ordering more strings ...another delay while he waits for the strings to arrive...maybe today they will arrive, then the tweaking happens, then the shipping. Oi. Judith

Ok- "she's" been shipped, but likely won't arrive till middle of next week. Too bad UPS doesn't work on the weekends. You know I'll post pics and comments as soon as I've had a chance to check "her" out. J

Good news!! "She" arrived today, as expected. Painfully, I didn't get to play until tonight. I will try and get pics tomorrow. The mando is physically beautiful - the color (the cocobolo reddish brown, the top golden honey), the finish, the overall workmanship - all wonderful. The tone seems resonant, deep, and even across the strings. She seems more woody than bright, able to be loud without a lot of effort. She also has a presence when played more quietly. I am thrilled AND really tired and so I have to experience her more and give my tired brain a chance to land on more descriptive adjectives. When I strum across strings, she resonates for a long time. Otterly - I must find you tomorrow evening and get your take. I believe that all of you who are waiting for an Arches mando will be happy. Thanks for your good wishes. More coming. J

Well, that is good news. I will live vicariously through yours, as I don't suspect mine will be ready until late this year or early next year. Look forward to your sound descriptions and of course pictures.

Awesome, Judith! Enjoy. You've certainly earned it.

I don't even know when mine is gonna hit the bench, so it'll be a looong wait for me. It will be nice hearing how yours opens up for you in the meantime.

May yours bring you many years of musical bliss!

Hey y'all. Here are some pics. I've had some difficulty getting them to be the right size for posting, so if these are horrible, I'll have to try again later. I am very happy. J

And one more. Thank you for all of your good wishes. Otterly will certainly have things to say - maybe even Ken Sager, who apparently played this before I did. Chris might get around to putting some clips up on his website. J

Aaahh the joy of getting one's hands on one's long awaited Arches...
Thanks for sharing these, it brings back some good memories.
Hope she sounds as sweet as she looks. Great choice of wood and inlay. Congrats!

That is one beautiful instrument, and I had a chance to play it at Ken's house... remarkable! I loved the tone and sustain. That's obviously before it's even opened up! The workmanship is flawless... the inlay is tight, the woods are beautiful. You are very fortunate to have such a fine instrument! I am going to talk to Chris about building something with a similar neck size/scale length for my wife because I think it will be easier for her to play than the Weber Sage II we borrow from time to time.

    Congratulations!!!
