This has no mandolin content but Pat does talk about Jaco and he is known for playing an instrument with string "courses". I hope that's justification enough...

I’ve been following Beato for a few years now. Highly recommended.

I was a guitarist and a big PM fan. He turned me on to Ornette - presenting his music at his shows. I really enjoy his quartet work. One of his shows in Boulder, trading chops on his synclavier with Josh Redman, is a highlight for me. His sound and feel got me in to a lot of Latin music in later years.

A thread relating Jako, Joni Mitchel, Pat, Ron Carter and now Gary Burton, Pat's mentor, has led to some memories and awareness of awesome musicians.

Rick Beato is really 'on a roll' with these interviews and online lessons. He interviewed Joni a little while back and I was hooked. However...

Just found this video, that IMHO is more insightful and personal.

Yes, both the Burton & Carter interviews are superb.

I should probably start a new thread on this topic but after this long journey here starting with the amazing Jaco Pastorius, perhaps it is not inappropriate to mention another amazing, 'non-mandolinist'. A young, acoustic guitar player. I'm guessing that he may be a student of the great Tommy Emmanuel.

I'm also a lover of fine, hand made, guitars and it is an extra treat to see this kid play some amazing guitars.

Furthermore, pop / rock 'covers' have an odd interest for me (and I expect for others too). I have not wanted to play the stuff (like Beatles tunes or James Taylor covers) since I was this kid's age. So this listening adventure invokes the 'Way Back Machine' and I'm not only 'knocked out' by the talent of this kid but by lots of memories related to the 'covers'.

Here is Kent Nishimura (just 'killing it' on a tune by the Beatles).
