I'm going to be in Detroit on weekdays for the foreseeable future. #Is there a Detroit Bluegrass scene that I've missed. #Any venue's play a lot of bluegrass or any local jams?

Searched the message board and didn't see any mention of Detroit.

    Thanks,

Sorry, I live just outside of Detroit and I don't know of any bluegrass but I guess anything is possible.

Check out the listings for The Ark in Ann Arbor:

    http://www.a2ark.org/

Their regular and touring schedule often features bg groups.

It's a bit of a drive from Detroit proper (45minutes) but worth the trip.

Bluegrass or not, go see the Tigers. Historically, there has been a lot of bluegrass and country music around Detroit due to the Southerners migration north to work in the auto plants. The music also came north and I think Bill and Charlie Monroe were in Detroit for awhile back in the thirties or so.

The Huron Valley Eagles Club in Flat Rock has Bluegrass shows on Saturday nights. The Kentuckians of Michigan Club in Romulus has their shows on Friday nights. And I think The Wayne County Racoon Hunters club, also in Romulus has jam sessions on Sundays.

Not sure about Bill and Charlie being in Detroit, However I do recall hearing they spent some time in Chicago, and Gary, IN. Jimmy Martin however spent alot of time here in Detroit working in the early years along with Sonny and Bobby Osborne.

I'll be back in the Detroit area around August 17-20, and I'm 99.9% certain I'm bringing the mandolin with me. Are there any open jams or gatherings around that time, either bluegrass or (especially) old-time?

I'll be dividing my time between the downriver area (Wyandotte, Southgate) and the northwest suburbs (West Bloomfield), so anything in the vicinity would be ideal.
