Nice lawnchair. Oh and the mando isn't bad either!

Great looking mando! Is that a James tailpiece?
I think Fletcher has been using James tailpieces for awhile now. #That is one fine looking mandolin and I bet it sounds every bit as good as it looks!
That headstock inlay is stunning!

2 bottles of Knob Creek bourbon
1953 modified Kay string bass named "Bambi"
That's great! Fletcher builds a great mandolin, congrats.
Bigwave,
Is there a trussrod cover? Or is Brock doing something new with his headstocks?
dunno
Yup, that is a James tailpiece.Originally Posted by (jjboone101 @ July 04 2006, 08:25)

No trussrod cover. He uses a carbon-fiber rod now.Originally Posted by (Teleier @ July 04 2006, 11:20)

Bigwave,
So that must really cut down on the wieght of the mandolin; and make the mandolin not so top heavy?
Pretty cool. Any other builders using carbonfiber?
dunno

Phoenix, I think.

Other people are probably more qualified to speak up about other builders using carbon fiber rods, but it doesn't appear to be completely unknown. I did a little reading about it when I first got the mando (in early May) as I wasn't familiar with this at all. Fletch is definitely a believer. The rod goes from the neck dovetail through the headstock. He also says it improves sustain and volume. I don't really know but it does have really great sound. This is the first F-style mandolin that I've owned and the first one that I have really had a chance to play extensively so my experience is too limited to compare.Originally Posted by (Teleier @ July 05 2006, 10:48)

Keith Newell is using CF.
rolfe is using carbon fiber exclusively.
That's one beautiful mandolin! Congrats!

Paul Newson used one in my 1982 A5. It's been around for awhile.

I too have been using the carbon fiber rod material for the last 8 years or so and have been very successful with it, many fine benefits with that kind of neck support, strength, lightweight and great sound projection
