Thanks to facebook memories, this popped up yesterday. There aren't that many videos of this fun band, but I thought I had them all. Somehow this raucous reefer number slipped through the cracks. The videographer shot us a bunch of times, and tended to stand in one spot and focus on the singers. Much of my amazing mandolin mastery didn't get screentime. But you'll hear some of the wildness, all the same. Sorry the audio quality is a bit rough. Enjoy!

This fine interview/feature of my old band, Love Lane Gang, for a local online news magazine became available recently, after all this time (2014). I was at my day job, but they included me in the story and footage. And they got in a bit of us playing "Tropical Swing," bass player LaPierre's tune, for the fadeout. Nice job all around!

This is me with my fiddling friend Sarah Huntington playing two versions of Coleman's March on YouTube. The two versions harmonize perfectly. Enjoy!

stringalong, that's wonderful playing by you and your friend on the fiddle. Let me embed that for you so more people will listen/watch.

Edit: Weird thumbnail on the video, but once it starts it goes to you 2 playing the tune.

Thank you, Don! I didn't know how to post the video!! I'm so excited that you did that. The reason I have the "weird thumbnail" is because of the story behind Coleman's March. Coleman was being taken to be hanged for a crime he did not commit, and as the wagon moved towards the gallows, he played this tune, Coleman's March. It's a dirge.

OK, I didn't see that thumbnail when I clicked on your link so it surprised me when I embedded it. Glad to do that for you. I really enjoyed your duet on the tune.

Don could you explain to me how to post the video instead of just the YouTube link? I'd like to post a solo mandolin tune sometime.

Here's how. (Though it might be better explained in the "Software Support" area, I'll give it a go.

First, copy the identifier string of code for your youtube video. This is the bit 10-11 characters long immediately after the = in the code string - and before the & if there is one. Then, with that on your clipboard, open a message pane and Go Advanced. You'll see a Youtube icon above the pane - click on that. It will generate the embed code in the pane. Paste the contents of your clipboard ( by right-clicking or using Ctrl V, as I do) and your code string will appear where it should. Click enter, and presto-change-o - there ya go!

Here's an example, doing this procedure for the next most recent post of code rather than video:

    [YOUTUBE][/YOUTUBE

    pasting the code

    gdvnn5y6-1Q

it appears between those two bits of code (which when you're doing it, will have the ] at the end, which I removed so you could see what I did) and produces:

If you hit "Reply with Quote" you'll be able to see what I mean. Just don't click Save!

I went to 2 live shows this year and to my surprise and delight at both the bands played a Bill Frisell tune. I've always wanted to play "Verona" and thought it would work nice on mandola, so why not 3 mandolas. Left to right 1996 FlatIron Scout mandola, 1925 Gubson H1 mandola, 2002 Weber Galllatin mandola.

Nicely played Tim. I like the arpeggios.

Managed to get out and see the sun the other day, temperatures above freezing.
This winter is almost over! Here’s a great Reischman tune that I’m working on.

Enjoyed your outdoor take on this fine Reischman tune. I grew up in Indiana and went to sleep many nights with fireflies in a jar by my bed when I was a kid.

Jo, I wonder if you considered putting together and publishing a collection of some of these very interesting pieces. The videos often look like you are reading from sheet music, so I assume it exists. I would support such a project, and I imagine many of your fans would as well.
I am still finding my way around your beautiful liuto/cittern, but our local orchestra music requires most of my practice time on the old mandocello. When I have something ready on the 10-string (working on a Calace piece with Fabio Giudice) I will post it, but I want to do justice to your instrument.

A special occasion - the last musical outing with the old work colleagues, friends, after-work strummers and occasional open-mic band before new jobs and long-distance house moves cause the natural end of our making music together.

Tim, this is great playing! Lovely tune too. Tried to find it on abcnotation but they’re doing routine maintenance.

    Lovely, Tim.

Thanks Chuck, Frank, Simon, Ranald and others, I only recently discovered Jeop Beving (like 2 weeks ago) a pianist and composer from the Netherlands.
He has many wonderful pieces but this one grabbed me by the frontal lobe and would not let go until I set her down myself.

As Frank said - the most difficult part of this is the piano left hand, and the story relates to the pages and pages of "correct pinky use" documented here on the Cafe.
I could make the Am chord

    D (a) 7
    A (c) 3
    E (e) 0

with my pinky on the 7th of the D of the octave, but not consistently, so I wound up enduring the stretch while using my ring finger on the 7th of the D, with index on the 3rd of the A.
I come down on the chord using the pinky a few times in this recording but it was predominantly the ring finger.
