Another wee tune I composed recently, this time a jig. The background photos are of the famous Kelpies sculptures which stand, thirty metres high, between Falkirk and Grangemouth in Central Scotland.

Tune played on mandolin, octave and guitar.

We got him a mandolin when he was 4 (he's 8 now). I'm pretty sure he learned his first real song when he was 5, Will the Circle Be Unbroken. Before that he was just learning a few chords and working on keeping an offbeat...

Here's a JS Skinner tune that I've hacked about, jumped all over and played in minor key.

Just the octave on this one. Hope you guys like this tune, Kathryn Tickell usually plays the Northumbrian small pipes, and has written some great dance tunes too.

I may have posted this before. Don't know how to search for it, being from facebook. But it came up in my memories today, six years ago today - a pop-up band for a one-time gig. Fun take on an old standby.

Hmmm ... Not showing up. Wonder why. Maybe there's some sort of non-sharing whammy on it? Working on it ...

Ha! Turns out I did post this, four years ago - via youtube. Not sure why it's not working via facebook, but no matter - here 'tis. Enjoy - again!

Listened to all three on good speakers and the depth of the bass on your instrument is amazing, Jo. A really good selection of postings here. Thanks for sharing.

Gaelic music from the NW Highlands of Scotland, a place called Achnahaird, in Coigach, Ross-shire.

Ali 'Beag' MacLeod on accordion, me on my Gibson F4 mandolin, a 1922 one.

Ali 'Beag' died during Covid, and I hadn't remembered this footage until it surfaced in a digital rummage. He's very much missed by many.

Kevin, what a great memento of great times playing with Ali Beag. He must be so missed up in Coigach and much further afield.

This traditional Irish reel is a lot of fun to play. There are so many variations out there. I invite you all to check them out! I also enjoyed busting out my Fender Bass VI to help out with the low end! I hope you enjoy this one!

Casacada de Lagrimas or Cascade of Tears, from the book "A little couple dance music" by Peter Barnes. I first heard this played by violinist Mary Leah with Barnes on piano. It is attributed to Moaycer Bragi and is an Argentinian Waltz. Played here on the Collings F5 and the Weber Black Ice Octave.

After close to 17 years of this thread running I'm posting the first video of my playing along with my band Mire Pral, which focuses heavily on Django Reinhardt's music. This is the Django composition "Swing 42" followed by the Louis Armstrong favorite "When It's Sleepy Time Down South."

The other members are Mike Horan (left) and Eric Mardis (right, of Split Lip Rayfield fame) on guitars and Paul Schmidt on bass.

I enjoyed both the band and your playing, Scott. I'm feeling mellow. Thanks for posting.

I don't know if I've posted this before. I'm pretty sure I've posted the version from a bar gig. This is from a small now-long-gone festival in NW CT, eons ago. It's a so-so recording of a fine performance by my first band, active late 70s-early 80s. I really got into some high notes a couple of times here, partly thanks to my late, lamented F-12, which had those frets. Enjoy!
