Here's a set of Irish jigs played on my Collings MT.

Sweet Biddy Daly, The Banks of Lough Gowna and Jackson's Jig. One or two bum notes but hey - there's a lot of notes!

Thank you for the kind words.

I like the sound of my mandolin too, though I have a bit of scroll envy nevertheless.

Here's a classic Mike McGoldrick tune in 7/8 time.
I've included some Bulgarian paintings which I hope you will find more interesting than looking at me playing the tune!!!

I need to share this with our local Oregon group; we played a piece I wrote in 7/8 ("Agitation") and some of the players thought I was crazy. Sounds nice and smooth here; American music is so fixed in 4 or 3 time when there is a world of rhythms out there. Thanks for this, cool tune and great pictures.

Thanks Jim, I appreciate it. Yes, have fun with it. Abstract art is crazy too until you understand the rules.

    For dancing it would be, ‘1234 123 1234 123 1234 123 1234 123 1234 123’
-really important though, the pick direction is DUDU DUD
    - it’s really that simple, half a reel and half a jig.

Same 7/8 time, another one is, ‘123456 and 123456 and 123456 and 123456 and’
    -DuDuDud DuDuDud DuDuDud

-the bold print ‘1’ is the foot tapping.
and I put the notation and TAB on my YT channel.

Careful though guys, it’s a lot more, ‘let’s get out there and do it’ than rock and roll!
    -no… whatever!

Here’s another tune that I like quite a lot!
Rain on the Woodpile by Rob Harbron of Leveret.

It doesn’t flow so well under the fingers (yet) but I’ve included some great artwork from Jasper Johns.
Hope you guys enjoy this too.

Here’s a break I put together for Red Haired Boy. It technically was not on the spot improv, I had to do a few takes…😂

Is that a resonator tenor guitar? Great playing, and great idea! I love the combination of playing music whilst sharing a recipe. The internet needs more of this.

Yes. Longscale, that is, aka "plectrum guitar", but tuned GDAE.

    The Crown at Portpatrick.
It’s woodshed time, with a lovely mazurka written by Nigel Gatherer. (Portpatrick is in beautiful Scotland).

Here it’s 200 feet below the snow line near a little village in the south of France, and some excellent harmonisation from a couple of singing birds. Zoom H6 microphone in a woolen sock half-buried in front of me picks up birds - and aircraft too.

Haven't had an after breakfast tune for a wee while. This is Jimmy Shand's classic tune The Bluebell Polka. It was very popular when I was young, indeed it was a great favourite of my mother who would sometimes sing it about the house. This kind of tune seems quite old-fashioned nowadays, but I think it's great.
Played on my Sobell 10 string mandolin.

I wasn't intending to make a video to post here, however I made a video for my Facebook friends for St. Paddy's Day. It turned out well so I put it on Youtube, and so maybe I should post it here then. It's a set of Irish jigs that I recently learned. I'm playing a Gibson MM.

    Tunes: The Christy Barry Set
    • Sean Coughlan - G
    • Butlers of Glen Avenues - G
    • The Stolen Purse - G
    • Lark in the Morning - D

Rummaging through some old hard disks recently and came across this mandolin-&-guitar arrangement of Calace's Moto perpetuo, recorded in 2007 in a Shanghai hotel lounge:

Thanks, yes, a Rigel, one of a batch of eight birdseye maple CT 110 bodies that they had made and set aside for custom orders.

Twenty-four frets, no Florida – Pete bolted the neck on through a plate in the back (like a Tele) because "I never want to have to lift up that fretboard!", which is 60% mother-of-pearl (the white notes are the white notes, if you know what I mean – play a C, and your finger will be on mother-of-pearl – play an F#, and your finger will be on ebony).

I have a G110, I 've had it since about 2005, I 've had offers on it even though I am not selling it, and I am not selling it. I almost bought the CT110 there was one right next to it but this one kind of spoke to me. Massive tone on that and Awesome playing there.
