I just picked a up a very enjoyable CD: VIVALDI 4 mandolin Concerto's With Ugo Orlandi and Dorina Frati. It is Warner Classic "apex" label and it only set me back $8.99
Has anybody else heard this release?

Indeed. These recordings have seen a few releases. They were also released by Musical Heritage Society. Another to feature the same recordings of Vivaldi's RV 93 (originally for "leuto"), 425, and 532 along with the two attributed to Paisiello (played by Orlandi) and one by Caudioso (played by Bianchi) is The Magic of the Mandoline (Erato 4509-92132-2). Orlandi has a pretty sizeable discography on Fone, Erato, Koch, Nuova Era, and others. Frati has several very nice recordings using reproductions of various mandolin types of that period and one played on an original 1770s Fabricatore mandolin. One of Orlandi's proteges is the inimitable Carlo Aonzo.
Thanks for the info.
The two inimitables, Carlo and Ugo, are currently working on a duet recording. More info will be forthcoming at Carlo's Web site.Originally Posted by (Eugene @ Nov. 16 2006, 22:02)
