Nick,
I suppose I should sit back and and watch the responses roll in. I own the equvalent of 2 Yugos (low end imnports) and a 1917 Model A (literally). But I have to point out that in the 1950s Porche was viewed as an on-the-track speed bump by the real competitors like Jaguar (Model Ds). And even now Porche can't stand up to the real exotics and even the great Japanese sports cars. So... are you looking for performance per cost or unlimited performance?
Or are you looking for snob appeal (see current thread on that), the extent to which it is overpriced, its ability to help you pick up chicks, or what? What is the basis for this apples and oranges comparison? I would give different answers depending on the criteria.Originally Posted by

I have driven about 3000 Porsches, and played 3 mandolins.
OK, so I didn't drive them very far- I was a Porsche mechanic for 17 years and mostly drove them into the shop to fix them, and on road tests after. I thought they were good cars- but had mostly arrogant owners...
So which mandoilin is that?
PS- true, there were plenty of arrogant Porsche mechanics too- but I fixed Olds, VW, Toyota, BMW, Mercedes, AUDI, and Hondas too, and Porsche owners stood out for arrogant behavior.

Dang guys, Just trying to have a little fun. How bout this then;. What would be the Ford F150 or Chevy 1500 of mandolins? I say Flatiron. The mandolin that was made for everyone. Nick:D

A wrong note played timidly is a wrong note. A wrong note played with authority is an interpretation.
I played a Rigel G-5 yesterday that was pretty sporty, cornered like it was on rails and just quick as a cat.
It just looked fast too.
Wouldnt it be German?, and perhaps made in a prison camp by slave labor in the early 1940s

The #44 Porsche GT3 finished second place in this years 24-hour Daytona car race. In endurance racing Porsche is well known for reliability, which is rather essential when the car is raced around the clock non-stop.

The easiest way to check for the Porsche of mandolins is to look for an oil stain and rust.

So this banjo player goes up to a house in an upscale suburban neighborhood and knocks on the door. The lady of the house answers and asks what he wants.
“Well, Ma’m,” says the banjo player, “ It’s been really hard to find work lately and I wondered if you had any odd jobs you would pay me to do.”
The lady says, “Why, yes, I need my porch painted. Go around back to the garage and you will find some paint and brushes. If you will do that, I will pay you $100.”
The banjo player thanks her and goes to work. He comes back a couple hours later and knocks on the door. The lady answers and he says “All done!”
The lady replies, “My, that was fast!”
The banjo player replies, “Well, it wasn’t all that big. And by the way, did you know that your car actually isn’t a Porch, it’s a BMW.”
