I am planning a St. Paddy's Day party. In addition to U2 and Thin Lizzy, I want to have some good traditional Irish music as well.

What would you say is the one best, most authentic Irish album that I could order online?

Well, I don't know authentic from a bag of elbows, but for more fun than a pint of Guinness, I'd suggest these three:

    1. The Complete Dubliners (in case you've been living in a cave all your life)
    2. Torch and Fire, Dan Beimborn (in case you've been living in a cave the last few months)
    3. Angelina Carberry & Martin Quinn (in case you're not already in love with tenor banjo - and a tenor banjo player - but would like to be)
    Yuletide Bob

If the party is mostly non-musicians, then you can't go wrong with the Dubliners or the Clancy Brothers for mostly singing, or Chieftains or Bothy Band for mostly not singing.

I don't think you can top Red Roses For Me the debut album from the Pogues. Really anything with there original lineup is great.

I found a Chieftans that somebody gave me, and I'm just now ordering the Pogues and the Dubliners. Thanks.

Agree with all of the above. #Plus a trio of expatriate Irish musicians who eventually settled in Newfoundland, and were known as RYAN'S FANCY. #They were huge in Atlantic Canada back in the 1970s and 1980s.

I read this morning that their mandolin/guitar player (Dermot O'Reilly) passed away on the weekend. #Sad news. Perhaps you'll be kind enough to tip back a 'jar' in his memory at your party.
