Hey mcH. I'm in Pickens, SC, which isn't far from NW Georgia. Just over the border. You?

Duh--where's my head tonight? Sorry about that. Got a rowdy two-year-old who has blasted my poor brain right out of my head tonight.

I lived close to Chattanooga for a while. I used to jam every friday night at Signal Mountain, TN. It's a little town up on the mountain just north of Chattanooga. Great jamming and they have a stage show also.

Also, Ringgold, GA has the Ringgold Opry. They have some great jamming there also and a stage show as well. It's in the little town of Ringgold not too far south of Chattanooga.

Those were the best of times......

Ooops! I forgot to tell the name of the place at Signal Mountain. It's called the Mountain Opry.

    MCH:

I moved from Haralson County (south of you) about 2 years ago. There was a long-time jam at a car dealership in the Calhoun area I believe. They did have a website, but I couldn't look it up. Maybe you can Google it.

Also there is a jam in the "Barn" in Tallapoosa, GA, Haralson County. Kind of an open mike session, but really nice people. Jeff Merrel sometimes posts here and is acquinted with that jam. Travis Tritt (Douglasville) has been known to show up unannounced on occasion.

I hope that helps a little.

Thanks for the all the jam comments, guys. #Actually, we're not looking for a jam, we're looking for a mando player in the area who may want to play with an existing band. Our current mando player is not available as much as we'd like.

    MCH:

I see I didn't complete my thought. Sorry. At those two jams you can see the mandotalent in your area and you may find the one that fits your list of requirements.

I'm in Chattanooga. There are lots and lots of great mandolin pickers in this area. What kind of music do ya'll play? How accomplished are the other players in the band?

We play "grassed up" music: #some traditional, but mostly songs we grew up with [pop / rock / etc] that we've turned into bluegrass. The songs we play have more than three chords [which has confused many people that have tried to play with us -- and please, no one take this the wrong way].
I'd say that all of us are good players. #We play by ear, learn quickly, can usually take a tune and arrange it and learn it in a couple of practices. #Check out our website>> #oldmillroad dot com.
