Just wondering if anybody made it to the Frank Wakefield show last Friday in Saratoga.

Would love to hear some feedback.

    Thanks!

Awesome. I've never seen anyone on stage before with such enthusiasm and delight, which is saying alot given his age and recent health issues. You'd have thought he paid us to be there. He seemed to have a ball (as did I). At one point when he was playing I started laughing, not because it was funny, but because it was just overwhelming (like tears of joy), you know here's a guy who's bouncing around the stage with fingers flying putting Eddie Van Halen to shame (no offense Eddie) smiling laughing, and just kickin' ***. It was a fabulous show, and a great opportunity to experience a living breathing embodiment of America's cultural heritage. Also, he's playing in Albany at the Linda Norris Theater (WAMC) June 2.

Excellent show - one of the best I've seen him do. He worked well with the band, and played all his usual songs. I had a hard time thinking of any I wanted to hear that he left out. His enthusiasm for the music is inspiring, and it should be a lesson to all the people who take every note they play so seriously.

    Kind words and thanks.

On a side note for anyone who came, we've got at least another set of songs either all or mostly worked up, so if you come to the Linda Norris, you'll probably get to hear some we didn't play at the Parting Glass.

    Yes, New Camptown was played.

If anybody's interested, maybe I could post the setlists later on.

I'd sure like to see Frank live, not likely to happen here on the east coast of Canada though. I did, however, find a copy of the "Blues Stay Away from Me" LP here last week. An unexpected surprise find, albeit a very good one.

I wasn't there, but two friends of mine called up on Sunday to ask if I've heard of a mandolin player named "Frank somebody". They live in Saratoga, and just happened to catch the show. They live across the street from the Parting Glass. They loved it. I'll be up there myself in mid-May, do you have any shows planned for the weekend of the 19th? And might you know if Frank is available for a lesson that weekend?

He may still be out in California then. As far as the lesson, you should give him a call. His numbers on this website for the weekend workshops he was doing.

Where is The Parting Glass? I used to strut around downtown and remember places like the Tin & Lint, etc., on Caroline Street. Frank was playing in those place way back then, and I used to catch him fairly often.

Frank was obviously having a ball!
    It was a great show.
Anyone near Albany should come to WAMC's Linda Norris Auditorium to see the band.

Well, I didn't want to be bias or point anything out but being Frank is an enemy and ain't no good those boys with me were almost aint no good either. He looked miserable and so was the rest of the Parting Glass crowd. Frank look diappointed only to be disappointed again in June.... and Hans to bad you didntlive further... the show was taped but im sure nobody wants it!!!! darn it now Frank has me talking or playing backwards.... anyways both Nate & Howie hit the nail on the head....... and if Frank comes anywhere near whoever reads this post really go check him and this new band out........
    Peace,
    Brad
