    Unhappy

I have inherited a Washburn mandolin. I would like to find out what year it was made in. There was two dates on the sticker but I don't know if they mean anything, 1893, and 1894. I have what I assume is a production# 19136, a Model#1915, and Style#1640. Any help would be great.
    Thanks

A photo or photos of your mandolin would help.

After a cursory glance at my catalogs I only come up with the following:

    1919:
Roundbacks: #1636 and 1648 (plus other 1600 series mandolins under the Washburn brand), flatback mandola #1638

    1920:
    1642: flatback mandola

Prior to that I only see 3-digit model numbers for Washburn.

It seems to be similar to the 1648 from the 1919 catalog. Maybe a little less fancy -- hard to tell from the small pics. Is there any engraving on the tailpiece? Do you have closeup of the fretboard inlays aone of the pickguard?

If you can post larger ones that would be great. I think you can size them even above 100k now.

Neil Russell (2002) states that the 16XX models (made 1915-1921) are the hardest to identify. The last couple digits were based on suggested retail. Where in the past model numbers were stable based upon when the model was first introduced, Russell believes the 16XX series changed model numbers when they changed the suggested retail.
