A good friend of mine currently is in NYC and lookingh for shops that carry vintage Gibson mandos. Are there others than Mandolin Bros?

Larry has way more right now than anyone else in NYC.
2 Loar signed F5's, and a post Loar mandocello. Now, that's rare!

retrofret has two snakehead. an a (blacktop) and an a-4. it also has several paddle heads of each model, and maybe two f-2s, and a loar period f-4(which is very nice). also they have an h-1 dola.

If your friend is up for a road trip, there's Vintage Instruments in Philadelphia that specializes in vintage acoustic instruments including Gibsons and Martins and such...In NYC, it would make sense to start with Mando Bros.

Thanks for all the good suggestions...after days of trying my good friend found a wonderful black 28s style-A at Mandolin Brothers. He liked the whole athmosphere there a lot - no pressure though he visited a few times, and he was able to play instruments from 300 to 20.000 USD. The good exchange rate EURO/DOLLAR seemed to make it easier to buy a good instrument. i will now tell him about mandolin archive. (maybe i should send the details on my mandos as well *g)
