I finally got my copy today. Nice big photo of a July 9th sidebound and the article is very imformative but nothing new to those in the know about Loars. I did notice that Gruhn/Carter(not sure which) continues to get the date Monroe bought his famous Loar F5. While for years when Monroe was living the date has been around 1943 meaning even Monroe by the time in the late 60's when asked could not remember an exact year on a purchase even if it did change the coarse of a music gender. Tom Ewing and other scholars of today have shown Monroe was never in the state of Florida in 1943 and when you compare dated photos and recordings of the era it clearly shows he got the Loar while on tour in Florida in Jan. of 1943. Less then a month later he is in the studio recording his first song with it. There is also a nice article about Loar prices and how they have outpaced the Stock Market and other investments since the 70's. Gruhn lists the escalating price ranges in Loars starting with Monroe paying half price for a Loar in 1943(well it was really 1945). Not a bad investment of $150 that 60 years later fetchs a mere million dollars. The article puts current prices for a top end Loar at $225,000.00. That price won't last long!
Typo? Do you mean to say he got it in Jan. 1945?Originally Posted by (f5loar @ Aug. 23 2007, 15:00)

When your're hot you are HOT! Nothing like riding the waves when they are peaking.
I am sure Herschel has maintained his Loars as well as anyone could. Lots of good licks in that one...
Mr. Sizemore's mandolins are as clsoe to perfect as they can possibly be. He doesn't baby them and he plays them, but he is very careful with them and takes extremely good care of them.
ne1 know the serial for the one he's selling?
