All ebay transactions should be conducted with caution and common sense.
Dn't send monet until you can verify the sellers location and contact him/her at that location.
Verify that the seller has the item in his/her possession.
Use escrow payment for ghigh-dollar purchases.

The buyer said, "Seller would not accept payment cash, cheque or Pay-Pal." It would have been nice to know what type was payment was accepted - maybe your first born? The original auction price worked out to about to about $5350 for a 1913 F4, a fairly hefty sale price for auction. ps. The top looks too yellow for original 1913 sunburst, I think. The pick guard looks non-origial too.

Tuners and bridge are also wrong for a 1913. 1912/1913 marks the transition from the 3-point to the 2-point F4s.

There are just a handful of 13xxx F4s in the Archive, but none of them is a sunburst ... they're either pumpkin or blacktop. Hm. What if someone read the serial # wrong on this one, and it's really 73xxx, not 13xxx?

Regardless, yeah, things look fishy. Could be that the seller got a new ID after getting negative feedback on the old one. Very interesting mandolin, but one shouldn't buy it without absolute proof that the seller has it and isn't pulling something.

Thanx for the good advice, Curt; I was just about to send my Renoir as a trade...

The pickguard looks like it's from an A model. Looks pretty awful on that F4.

The finish is certainly not original for a pre 22 F4. At least I've never seen one with those colors. I would bet it has been refinished in the late 30's or early 40's. Just guess, but that is my take.
