Earl Taylor is one of my all-time favorite mandolin players and bluegrass singers. His style was if anything even a little bluesier and minimalist than Bill’s, and his very distinct notes pop right out of the speakers. He had a bright cutting sound even on his tremolo. I especially like his recording of “Short Life of Trouble” on Mountain Music Bluegrass Style (Folkways). His story, and others, are well told in the book “Bluegrass in Baltimore” by Tim Newby.
I always said two of my favorite mandolins ive played was Taylors Fern and Paganoni #30
i played them both the same night
