    I'm going to guess that someone needed access to the inside of this poor mandolin.

    It does say that "No repairs are evident". Alligator dentistry isn't considered a repair.

    I didn't realize before this thread that most F-hole mandolins actually have lower-case f's -- while the one linked above has upper-case bold-font F's.

    Amazingly the title originally was There are f holes and then there are F HOLES". The forum software converted it to lower case.

    Builder thought the soundhole pattern that he had handy was good enough,
    so as a result, you have guitar F holes on the mandolin project.

    That was a Gibson built mandolin, I seriously doubt they cut the holes that size.

    Let me tell you about the one that got away....

    ...and that was a Kalamazoo ....and I still regret it everyday. Even with the crack in the face it still was a great mandolin.
