    Hi,

Found a great resource of old fiddle tunes for mandolin // Mandolin Instruction: Old Time, Country and Fiddle Tunes - Michael Holmes at:

    http://www.smithsonianglobalsound.or...px?itemid=1441

You can download the liner notes with tabs of each song in PDF for free and/or download the sound files for $9.99

    Or $8.99 at:

    http://www.amazon.com/Mandoli....sr=1-34

I'm working on "Turkey in the Straw" right now, and almost have it.

    Peace... Carl

Glad you found this! #Mike Holmes is a fine player who runs the online vintage instrument information site Mugwumps Online. #Mike also holds three weekend music camps every year outside of Boston, including Mandolin Camp North.

Hey that's who I learned to play mandolin from first, from Mike and his book of tunes.
If he can play with his huge hands anyone can, and he plays a narrow neck just as well as a fatty.
Be yourself, everyone else is taken.

Old thread but I recently discovered this wonderful collection while randomly cruising Tidal for fiddle tune recordings. Sometimes it’s hard to find a collection of basic, well-known tunes in one place. This is a good one. He plays them slow, then faster, and at the end of there are ensemble recordings of all the tunes played up to speed—all in a non-flashy, non-BG sort of way; a very primitive and Old-Time style. Heads up if you’re looking to get into fiddle tunes this year.

Here are the liner notes with all tabs included:
