I've been told I need a regular picking partner who is at my level? #Is that true? and if so, is anybody in D/FW interested? How do I go about finding somebody who plays as bad as I do? And how can that help me? #

Its good to play with all kinds. Having someone better than you can make you step out of the comfort zone and learn new things by "going for it".

Its also good if they have alot of old Monroe CDs that you can borrow

Hi Kim...have you tried playing with a "band in a box" type deal?...like one where they play the song fast and then play slow. I have really enjoyed this book: http://www.bluegrassbooksonline.com/

Also, one this that has really helped me is to record the jams that I go to and then play along with the recordings.

I've had a similar thought before as well, and would enjoy getting together with some other mando pickers as well and just sharing some tricks and things we've learned outside of the jam environment. Kim, I'd be happy to join you, or perhaps we can get a few of us together occasionally as a small group.

Hi Kim. I was in your class at O'Flaherty's this year and I don't think you pick bad at all! In fact I thought you did pretty good.

I haven't had time since O'Flaherty's to get involved in any of the sessions, but I did get on the email list and there are plenty going on in your neck of the woods. If you're interested, send me a PM and I'll give you an email address to get on the list of contacts for the home session info.

I'm going to try to make some of the home sessions after the first of the year; it really sounds like fun getting together in someones living room and playing with all those talented musicians. Now, this is for Irish tunes, and I remember you being more of a BG player though, so I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for.

At any rate, let me know if you're interested in that information and I'll get it to you. In fact, if you kept Mr. Firestine's emails you should have my direct email address as well.

Hope you're taking care of that beautiful Gibson!

    Take care,
