Just picked this up yesterday. Years have gone into taking this home. It sounds good with well defined clear tone. I can hardly wait to hear how it sounds in a year or so.
    Pardon my poor photographic technique.

This shows the color of the top a little better.

    Phil,

I'm not a big F style fan, but that is a NICE looking mandolin. Congratulations to you both. Let us all know how it sounds.

I call Wayne Henderson the best of the best kept secrets out there building the F5s. You don't hear much about his work but when you do it is always in the highest regards. He knows his stuff and this new one shows it. He applies the "KISS" method and always comes out looking and sounding so great. Eric Clapton says he builds a pretty fine guitar too!

One step closer for Papa Gordo. Maybe Wayne will build my A5 during the New Year. . . .

Congratulations and beautiful mandolin (love the peghead and flame)!

Thanks guys. It's always nice to get a pat on the back when you get a new instrument.

As I mentioned, the mandolin is well balanced, with each string ringing out clearly. Lots of overtones, but with a very rapid decay, which keeps the sound very clean sounding. Lots of volume, even though I'm not a hard picker.

(In contrast, my other mando (which I also like) has much more sympathetic vibration,.... to the point that I sometimes have to mute quickly with my free fingers to keep the sound from getting muddy.)

This one is definitely a keeper.

Philpool, very nice instrument. I've seen the Lefty made for Audey Ratliff years ago, its been through hell but its a great mandolin. Yours will be a hoss i'm sure.

How long did you wait for the newborn?

    Have a great holiday.

Russ: Sorry I missed meeting you Friday. Maybe next year. Were you playing a Henderson guitar?

Sachmo: I started talking to Wayne about a guitar over 2 years ago. Then a year later, I had fallen in love with mandolins and asked him about making a mando. I'm fortunate enough to be within driving range and therefore able to "remind" Wayne pretty often. He's a genuinely nice guy, generous to a fault. But prone to put things off unless reminded often.

    Merry Christmas all!

Phil: That's the one you let me play at the jam a few months ago when it was in the white. Looks GREAT!
The story behind that mandolin is great too.

    Phil,
I have a Henderson guitar but was not playing it. If you saw me playing at all, it would have been in the kitchen on a Passernig mandolin. I also had a ringside seat for the Doc jam for the first hour or so.
