I've looked at mandolas before, thinking it would be an interesting addition. #Then, there was the auction of the Trinity College mandola with the proceeds going to Butch. #The price was pretty low so I placed a bid being indifferent as to whether I won or a higher bid went in to help the good cause. #Bottom line is that I won and UPS is going to try to deliver it today (no one will be home but I'll get it soon).

    Any recommended instructional material?

There is a ton of information on the web (well, relatively speaking) for tenor banjo, which is generally tuned the same (CDGA). I have a mandola being built right now, and that's what I've been reading.

I'd certainly welcome any other suggestions that I've been missing.

If you are going to learn to read standard notation in Alto Clef then any good beginning viola method book works great. At least it worked for me.

I'll swing by a music store this morning and browse based on those suggestions. Thank you!

The mandola arrived yesterday but since the temps were in the 20s here yesterday it is still in the packing box where it will stay until this afternoon.

Sorry, I was just evesdropping a bit. Where could a person learn more about "melodic motion chord stuff"? Is that a standard tenor banjo technique?

    Thanks.
