Via a 3/4" hardwood post(usually oak, because it's available locally) set into the solid cedar body. It's mounted so there's a slight down angle on the tailpiece( less than 90 degrees). This keeps the tailpiece down snug on the post. Very effective, and simple to install.

Dave I was just listening to the sound samples on your website. Very nice. You need to add a few more mandolin samples though.
Just a question (not about mandolins) in the Gallery there are pictures of electric violins but I did not see them mentioned elsewhere on the site. Do you build these for sale or are they still in the prototype stage?

Those are custom orders. Frankly, I don't make very much on them( as if I did on the mandolins!! # #

    Fretting a 1 3/4" radius is a true PITA...

I guess I've built five or six...prices are the same as the mandolins, including frets. #I knock off a hundred bucks for one without the crutches.

I'm assuming you listened to your favorite mandolin forum site owner play "All of Me"...Scott's a great player, and always fun to work with.

Here's one from last fall, using ebony, a gray pearl guard, and a gloss cherry red finish....the camera didn't do it justice....

Yes, the wood in the body is carved too thin to allow putting them in the wood. So I use a good quality mini pot, lay it on it's side. It's designed to use with your pinky finger while your hand is in playing position. Just lay your finger on top of either pot. Once you get used to it, becomes second nature.

Well...no one has ordered a 4 yet...I have done several five strings and a ten string. I extend the scale to about 15" for these. And a bit larger body too...although it's the same shape.
