According to the Sunday Hickory (NC) Daily Record, Bill Bolick passed away this pass Friday. He was 80. As you probably know, he was the mandolin playing brother of the duet.

I was fortunate enough to meet him around 1970 and a more gentle soul you'll never find.

I love the Blue Sky Boys--one of the best brother duests ever--and Bill's sweet singing and playing are always a delight to my ear. In a musical world dominated Gibson mandolins, he managed to carve out a unique sound with his archtop style 20 Martin.

I'm sorry to hear of his passing. I'll go dig out "Alabama" and "Are Your from Dixie" and remember him through his music.

Thanks Tom for sharing this sad news. The Blue Sky Boy's influence on bluegrass and country music extends way beyond those folks that are even directly familiar with their music. I will "take the dust off the old LP" and spin some of my favorite Blue Sky Boys tunes today

That mandolin sounded like a third voice the way he used it....

One of the iconic "brother duets" -- listening to the Blue Sky Boys was pure enjoyment. #The blend of voices and instruments was unparalleled. #I first heard them sing Satisfied Mind on an old Starday country music sampler, back around 1964, and I'll never forget the impression it made on me.

RIP to one of the often-overlooked greats of American music.
