I just got the book a few weeks back and am on the "Developing Coordination & Reading Skills" I have been playing three and a half years but only by tabs. Marilynns book is great for a mandolin academic study and I read the entire book. I am also playing the teachers parts in the part of mandolin basic's.For those who have started this book how far have you gone, I can nows read a great deal in the key of C. Onward.....

PS moderator please fix the typo( mandolininist) in the heading , the morning coffee did not happen yet

I purchased the book some time ago, but I'm not ready to tackle the material just yet. I'm a tab-playing mandolinist, and a relatively new one at that, so Marilynn's book will come after I master the material in The Tab Addicted Mandolinist. So much material to digest and so little time!

I just hit the Arpeggios Across The Strings page this morning. Yikes. On the violin I can rip them off at lightning speed; on the mandolin my right hand feels like a club. I had to stop, get out the serious coffee-making equipment and have some cappuccino. Even then I still considered auctioning off the mandolin in the street...

I was basically through the first section when I got side tracked. Funny you should bring it up as I blew the dust off and opened it back up this morning!

I've had mine for probably a couple of months now. I'm only up as far as the first tremolo exercises, and I've stumbled across "Angeline the Baker," the first tune I recognized. That one is so much fun, it's hard to drop it and go on.

You are right about all the "C" tunes. Gotta keep that first finger agile!

Is anyone currently working through this book? I've been working on pages 13-19 (Open Strings / Notes in First Position - Developing Coordination & Reading Skills). Is anyone familiar with the song/exercise D, A, and E Strings - Wichtl? I assume that's Georg Wichtl. Chords aren't listed but I figured them out best I could. Wondering if this a real song by him or just an exercise based on his style by Marilynn Mair.

    * did a search and this was the best thread going for this book.
