I saw in another thread that Eastman finually came out with a new logo.
So did anyone win the Logo Contest from the Cafe?
So has the wait for the new logo been worth it?

How is the Logo applied?
Do They use a decal or an inlay in example #2 ?
I suppose another possibility is the overlay is printed upon,
the [wood/plastic?] then it's applied to the headstock.

I still don't like it. Maybe if it were angled a little different I can see it being a big improvement. I think it would be great if it followed the straight line to the left of the scroll.
"They say the ocean, she is a woman, who waits for her man to come home." M.Houser
I agree. Should be angled or something. It's a little to generic for my taste. But it's only a logo. I'd dig it out with my pen knife anyway.Originally Posted by (Bigtuna @ Mar. 30 2008, 14:18)

That torch was a prototype. The "Contest" was more Gordon Roberts than Eastman and it never became official. Perhaps he'll use one on the Draelon Royale?
The new one is fine, the old one is fine. They're both pretty understated. I liked what comes out of the sound hole better!

Do you think one of the rules of the contest was to change it as little as possible?

No kidding. Changing the font and extending the curve on the n is hardly a change.
Yep. And in the shortest amount of time possible. Somebody obviously dwelled and pondered, back and forth for a good five minutes.Originally Posted by (NoNickel @ Mar. 30 2008, 15:12)
Not a big deal really but it'd be nice to see something equal to some of the sweet looking finishes they do.

Actually, I think the lines of the new logo conflict unpleasantly with the headstock. The prior was kind of generic but at least was somewhat balanced. Any improvement to the font is offset by the logo looking out of kilter now. I would have enlarged the font and tilted it to follow the long straight edge of the headstock.

I guess somebody likes it or it wouldn't be there but I sure don't!
It's generally received a positive response. I don't know what I'd have done. Still looks a bit plain, but I think that's part of the idea - keep the Eastman line different looking.

Steve, I see that image is from your web site. Do you want it removed?Originally Posted by (giannaviolins @ Mar. 30 2008, 18:44)

Looks like some free advertising if ya ask me! This board is getting way to touchy here lately.
As for the logo....it looks as bad as the old one. It would look much better if it was angled.

steve this is off the eastman topic but have you seen a jade and how are they comparied to an eastman? I have an eastman A that you did your voodoo on and I would really like a F but money is always a problem. I would like to hear your opinion. Thanks
Better than before but angles the wrong way
Should be rising to the right...
Just my humble opinion
Oh for the love of ... there was nothing wrong with the original logo! Where is the aspirin?
The Jade is very different from the Eastman line. I have one, I'd like to sell it for Bob. Sounds good, a little rough in some ways, quite delightful overall.

The "a's" in the new logo are open, which is what they'd be if the logo were inlaid into the headstock, instead of just being applied, either as a decal or as paint to be finished over.
Is the new logo inlaid, or just designed to look that way? I thought that the old decal looked a little too Spartan, especially in comparison with the blaze of faux abalone that makers like Michael Kelly use to "bling" up their instruments.

I've played a couple of Eastmans in a local music store & i think that they're really nice instruments for the cash. The logo however, looks to have been put on by a maker who doesn't give a damn, which i don't think is true of any maker wanting a share of the market. It looks utilitarian & spoils the appearance of what are nice Mandolins IMHO. The new one certainly looks better than the old one,at least to me,but it should be larger & re-positioned. It's almost as though they don't want you to know what make it is. After taking the time, trouble & expense to make nice instruments,Eastman should at least make an effort to present them well as can be. Purely my opinion,

I actually like the old Eastman logo and the way it was inlaid on the headstock. I honestly think it looked classier than the garish ornate headstocks found on many of the Pacrim mandolins. The simplicity was beautiful.

Here's the original thread where the "Contest" idea was bounced around. ON page two Gordon seems to imply he started the contest without Managment knowing about it...
IIRC, Gordon stated somewhere else, they used the simple script b/c the needed something fast and didn't develop the logo due to time. Looks like it has stuck. I've never had a problem with them. Their simplicity (even the new one) seems to set them apart from other importers.
