I just ordered a copy. Definitely anxious to get it. Does anyone have it yet? They certainly got a good group of musicians to contribute. Kinda surprises me that Mike Compton isn't on it though....

Just ordered my copy. Looking forward to hearing it; also looking forward to the Release concert in Indy in June!
Just ordered it! Big Yank fan, and Rich Delgrosso.
I asked Mike why he isn´t on the CD .
His answer was : Didn't get it together. Too much other stuff to do.

It's a wealth of performances on there. #My two favorite cuts are Tim O'Brien and David Grier doing "Texas Tony" and Sheena Rachell (Yank's granddaughter) singing Lake Michigan Blues. #Great stuff.
The release concert will be cool. #Gordon Bonham and I kick it off at 3P. #Andra Faye and DelGrosso will perform later in the day. #
That'll be a great weekend for mandophiles as the Midwest Mandolin Festival is the day before. #I'll be giving a workshop that day and performing around 5:30P with Gordon.
Most importantly, the Yank stuff is for a good cause as Sheena is ill and has a few kids to raise. #
Jim
Can't wait to hear Jim Richter on it, though. Now THAT guy can play some blues.

This is a great youtube video of Yank in 1966: Sleep JohnEstes w/ Yank Rachell
Sorry, but when I get excited about something.... Our favorite Yank Rachell inspired mandolinist!!
Brownsville Blues
They sound really good!!
Actually, the Brownsville Blues we do on the Yank CD is much different in arrangement. It's somewhat closer to the way Sleepy John and Yank recorded it. I like the CD version much more than the way we gig out on it.Originally Posted by (tenorbanjoguy @ May 10 2008, 00:31)
Jim
Can't wait till the Cd arrives and I will compare. I am sure I will like them both!Originally Posted by (JimRichter @ May 10 2008, 03:58)
Just got my CD! This will be in the CD player for the rest of the year!!!!!!!! SOOOOOOOO COOOOOOOOL!!!!!
I was happy to get to be a part of the project too, and Jim Richter's playing is really enjoyable on it. I couldn't make the release concert.... the flight from Sweden was just a a little too pricey! ;-) But got to hang out a little and listen to Rich DelGrosso in Memphis in February and he is great. Lots of solid playing on the cd from lots of lovers of Yank's music.
Got my copies today in the mail. It is indeed for a good cause and I hope people will support this. There are a number of musical styles on it, not just pre-war blues mando playing, so I think a lot of different kinds of mandolin players may enjoy it.
cheers

Got my CD last week; love it! Wonderful eclectic blues CD, seems to pull 90 years of different flavors from one genre.
Didn't associate the name, but I have been enjoying BERT DEIVERT's videos for quite sometime on YouTube. It is most certainly time to get one of his CD's.
Mr. Richter: I was just watching some videos of Mr. Bonham's band, and Wow, had no idea he was so diverse in is styles. Vocals, electric guitar lead voicings, etc. What great talent we have (you can include yourself in that!), and have had, in our Hoosier State. Shame it isn't more wide spread throughout the entirety of the state!
Looking forward to to your workshop and performances in June. I am afraid it will be sensory overload that weekend, but it will be fantastic!
Bert -- thanks for the kind words. Actually, I think Seems Like A Dream is one of the hot ones on the album, other than Lake Michigan Blues (Sheena) and Texas Tony (Tim O.). Great stuff. Hopefully we'll have the pleasure of becoming acquainted sometime in the future.
Jim
got my copy today and would like to thank Mike Butler for the efford of putting it together.
It´s fun ! As Bert said many different styles so everybody should give it a try.

Thanks for the kind words Jim and Mr. Boyd!
Indeed, Mike Butler and the sound man Al Stone have done a terrific job putting this project together. It has taken a lot of time and hard work. hats off to them both and all the people that took part.
Seems Like a Dream was a challenge, since it was originally done on guitar by Yank, and I had to come up with a riff that would suit the song well. My guitarist musical partner came up with a cool boogie woogie kind of riff on the resonator, and I just jammed with it till I came up with something that fit the feeling of the song. I am very pleased with it, and to be in the company of such great musicians on the cd. I started listening to Yank's music in 1973 and started playing blues mandolin about 4 years ago. I had fiddled around (sic) on mando before that, but never really played it, just learned a few songs to play on it by rote. This was a real challenge and it was worth the effort. I love the different style that blues has on mandolin. Yank, Carl Martin, Howard Armstrong, Vol Stevens, Johnny Young, Charlie McCoy and the like are artists I listen to for inspiration.
If anybody is interested in my cd Takin' Sam's Advice, with more blues mandolin on it, you can check it out on my website:

"Hey man, can you play B.B. King?"
"Yeah man, put some strings on him, tune him up, and give me a fiddle bow and I'll play the hell outta him" - Howard Armstrong
Private message Jim Richter, maybe there's something they can do. I bought mine through the mail, it was worth the wait!
