I use a bootlace on all of my mandolins. They only cost 2 or 3 dollars, can be adjusted to any length you want and they look cool too, what more could you want?

I have to put in a good word for the Long Hollow braided softy too. Great strap-Great price! I play over the right shoulder and these have enough nap to them that it never moves.

Here's another fan of the Long Hollow softy. #I have the Rigel version that I loved so much that I picked up a 2nd LHS strap for my F-4 from Acoustic Music Works. I find the leather's thickness and the stap's width at the shoulder to be extremely comfortable. #NFI in any of the above, just good stuff from good folks.

Just how long are these leather bootlaces that you have over in the USA ?. The longest i can get over here is about 36" long,certainly not enough to put a scroll loop in & another for the end pin.
My personal favourite straps are the 3 i had made by John Brown in Miami,FL. - braided
'F' & a flat 'F' style straps & a braided 'A' style strap. Beautifully made & very comfortable,

I just bought a braided strap from Randy Hogan. It is a very nice strap for my F-style and it fits well in my case.

I also use a leather boot lace. I get ones from the local shoe repair/saddlemaker and they are thicker than the kind you buy at the shoe store and about 60" long.

Another leather boot lace fan. I get some wooden beads from the craft shop, run the lace through a bead, then back through the bead, and tie a knot in the end so it can't slip back through the bead. Then, slip the loop around the end-pin - scroll - peg-head - and pull it tight. The weight of the mando keeps pulling the loop tight (I've never had one slip off the peg.), and it's so easily adjustable, by just pulling more of the short end through the bead, and tying a new knot. Definitely looks cool, and all for about two-bucks. I like the hangman's knot, too. It does look really great, but it can be a bear to get the length exactly right.
