what level of playing are you at?
i ask because some of these are really advanced chord theory based - what i mean is you can just copy what they are doing, but that is different from knowing WHY they used that chord in the first place.
for beginners i'd suggest the Doug Green (Ranger Doug) DVD
some good ones i have actually viewed were the Nick Forrester and Jim Wood videos - good stuff, more advanced
Thanks...
Really just looking to get started. I am not a beginner player, I would say intermediate, but the swing style is new for me. I play basic 1-4-5 bluegrass stuff now.
I will check those out!

I second the suggestions for the Nick Foerster and "Ranger" Doug Green videos. I haven't seen the Jim Wood one. Also, you might check out Paul Mehling's "Gypsy Jazz" rhythm DVD on Homespun; good stuff, though not really fiddle-tune oriented.

I third it (in a second hand kind of way) a friend has it and has spoken highly of it several times and between us we have (or had) almost every DVD pertaining to acoustic musicOriginally Posted by
Mark O'Connor's Fiddle Contest book has guitar chord charts but no diagrams of patterns for many fiddle tunes.
Joe Carr has a good column in Flatpicking Guitar magazine where he often gives tips on swing.
You may want to look into this Joe Carr book/cd
I looked at the first Mike Dowling swing guitar video from Homespun quite a while ago and it was helpful. I suspect the later installment(s) (I think there's one on soloing) would be good also, but I haven't used them.
There are some good materials on the lesson section of Mandolin Cafe also (western swing guitar chords and one on rythm changes, I think). And the book and CD "Swing Guitar Essentials" is good; also "All Blues" improvisation book and CD. I don't remember the publishers but I think Elderly probably carries them.
