Some discussion already in this thread in the "auction sites" forum. Apparently a somewhat weird instrument; it has a short 12-fret neck, leading to a bridge placement much nearer the tailpiece. Haven't heard doubts as to its authenticity, but even for an F-7 (a rare bird in itself), this one seems unusual.

It's the real deal. Looks right to me with exception of tuners as noted. I've seen both white buttons and metal buttons on the F7. The bridge is in the right place. A few of the photos make it look odd but the one in the case is right on. Some have a different varition on the inlay than this one. The starting price would be right for such a vintage prewar Gibson F model mandolin. Remember the beginnings of Bluegrass started here not the F5.

I believe there's one of these--a black top--on Tone Poems I. Seems like it had its neck replaced with regular scale, and you could still see the indentions from the old bridge placement.
