I am going to make a smaller abreviated pickguard, like most shown here for my F4 (in progress) QUESTION: How thick are most of these? I have a nice piece of 1/8 Walnut I could use, I want the guard dark brown like ebony, but will walnut stain that dark? Is walnut a OK wood for this?
Also on the wooden pickguards what do you finish them with, most in the photos look shiny but not lacquer shiny, a wax? Tung oil?
In general is a wood pickguard concidered more high qualiy, or upscale than the plastic tortoise shell looking stuff, or is it just personal taste. I like the look of wood and tortoise shell but the sheets of that shell cost a lot. Thanks JD (PS I know this is a old thread, this question date 3/19/05 ) JD
