Some notable features are the James/Lewis T/P with tortoise overlay, walrus tusk nut and saddle inset on treble side, forward SS holes and the tapered ribs

Wow, Hans! Impressive once again. I really like the scroll photo in the last post. You can really see the carving and the top wood. Nice!

Beautiful peghead, and the way the line of the extension flows into the pickguard is simply elegant!
Exquisite? Yes.
Very modern. Very cool. Me like! <drool>

Windswept! I'm looking at that scroll, and I may not be a builder, but I'm thinking it must be quite the project to carve. Nice work Hans.
Really nice!

That's absolutely lovely!
What does the tapered ribs and forward shifted S-holes do to the sound?
Hans, that is really awesome! Thank you so much for continuing to push design in a forward direction and in such a well executed fashion.
It's modern art.

Okay, so I think I've coined a description for this one: "Voluptuous Elegance!"
How fast will it go? Once again, you've given the mandolin world something to say" ain't that something" about!

Hans, That is a really stunning work of art. Can you please talk a little about the tonal differences that this one has over the traditional F-5? What style of music would it be better suited for?

Hey thanks folks! It does push the envelope doesn't it? I like the Farrari analogy.
Ron, it sounds like an Italian spruce F5. This one should be played right next to a banjo. It'll crack glass. The tone is a little bit richer than red spruce, the trebles are very crisp (sugar maple) and it's very throaty. It has a buttery smoothness to it also. Soundclip of the last Eclipse here:

I have no doubt that if I made one with red spruce/red maple it would sound like a Loar.
Jonas, I think the tapered ribs may contribute to the throatiness of the instrument...don't know about the SS holes being so far forward. I broke my own rule and did 2 major deviations in one instrument.
Pete, I think the inset ivory on the treble side of the saddle adds to the clarity of the trebles.
Dolusional, the layout of the scroll and binding was a bear, but carving it wasn't bad. It's much harder to bind something small and oval than round.
Thanks to all that gave me encouragement to push this design. For now I'll just enjoy it, but who knows...V7 may be in the future.
"I broke my own rule and did 2 major deviations in one instrument"
Rules ?? It doesn't look like you operate with rules. It's a beautiful mandolin. Good work.
You can't see your future in a rear view mirror.
Very very cool Hans.

Hans, your ability to make so many different styles of instruments and dial in their tone is truly amazing. I like that fact that you continue to try new things.

Hans, I said this before.... I don't have scroll envy but after seeing your V6.... I will probably re-think my position on that subject. That V6 is a complete beautiful class act.
