I used "Nature's Miracle 3in1 Odor Destroyer" (unscented) on a plush-lined guitar case that once had a bit of an external mildew problem due to storage in a damp basement and ended up smelling pretty musty. This product worked very well, indeed. I found it at a Petco. Thanks, Paul H., for sharing this info.

Yes .... eons later when a search lead me to this thread .... following the advise of Luthier Supreme Hostetter i wandered into the pet department of a true general store here in the Kingdom and met with success in the acquisition of said elixir: Nature's Miracle. Aptly named ... the stuff worked wonderfully on both a mandolin and a guitar case.

    Thanks Paul,

I'll offer another testimonial for Nature's Miracle, and another application. We used to pick a couch from among the many abandoned in June on fraternity row in Berkeley, and take it along to Weiser. Different couch every year. Then once after settling into the hot climate we began to notice the unfortunate aroma of vomit - too bad, otherwise it was the perfect camp furniture. Should have known.

We left the couch in the Stickerville shed, and next year we brought (instead of another couch) Nature's Miracle, which we had been using for dog "accidents" on carpet. Repeated treatments deodorized the couch, truly a miracle of nature.

Garsh, and aw shucks, to two old pals.

BTW, I just used it on my daughter's boyfriend's sneakers. Worked wonder there too.

And i thought the only thing that worked on those things was a good roaring fire. Will wonders ever cease!

Quick question for Paul and the other luthiers here...
Would it be safe/advisable to wipe down the inside of an old guitar (tonewoods are Adirondack over Mahogany) with a musty smell using a cloth dampened with Nature's Miracle?
Fresh air and sunlight have reduced the smell substantially, but there is still some mildew stink.

I personally like old case smell. In most cases, however, you're wiping down lacquer, not the woods underneath. And you still have the case to think about, and it's a far more fertile matrix for microorganisms.

Thanks Paul. The guitar's original case (the case that was the source of the problem?) has been replaced, and is now living a full life at that farm out in the country.
