You just missed the Mountain View Bluegrass Festival Nov. 6, 7, and 8th. There are usually jammers around the old court house but with the wheather getting colder that's probaly iffy this time of year. They usually have music shows at the Folk Center but I also think it's probably too late in the season. I suspect some Christmas shows maybe. Norman & Nancy Blake, Doc Watson, Ralph Stanley and The Nashville Bluegrass Band are some of the good shows I seen there in the past. If you're ever down this way (Knoxville AR 1-40 Exit 67 ) give me a holler and we'll do some pickin and talkin mandolins.
I Pick, Therefore I Grin! ... "Good Music Any OLD-TIME"

2006 Gibson F5 Goldrush
2015 Martin HD28-V
2017 Gibson J45
It's slow going around the courthouse after early November. Sometimes there are folks playing in the music stores on the square (if they still exist. I haven't lived around there for 3 years).
There's a few barns that advertise shows on the weekends. They used to have some fine music, and some corn-pone. Grandpa Jones used to live there (I spent a summer living in his old cabin!), so it just goes with the territory.
Blanchard Springs Caverns is always open, and really worth the trip if you like caves. They're not as big, but just as beautiful as Carlsbad Caverns, IMHO. If you like hiking or mountain biking, it's hard to find a better place then that country.
I drove up yesterday afternoon ( Saturday) to look around. There were a couple of brave guys on the square, but it was only about 42 degrees. There were somes shows advertised, but the best outsdie pickin' weather is about 4 months away.
jimbob,Are you still in searcy?
I like mandolins.
Yes...still here.
Hey, My wife and I are talking about going to the spring festival (2009). Can anyone recommend an RV park that may have better pickin' than another, or just better services, or closer to the action. We have never been to Mountain View, so if someone out there has been before, a little inside information would be nice. We live in Kearney MO. and do most of the festivals that are close, and Winfield. Thanks ahead for the help.
Jim

We stay at:
Fiddlers Valley RV Resort
324 Oak Avenue, Mountain View, 72560
Phone 870-269-5700
They have a pickin' porch and always something in the old black pot cooking over an open fire.
It is just under the hill from the square.
Good Luck
Don
Second on Fiddlers' Valley. Centrally located, but not too hectic. Really nice management people. I strongly suggest that you get a reservation early. This is a very popular campground, and fills up fast. Oh yeah, don't eat too much pie. Easier said than done in Mt. View.

Made our reservations on Monday. If any of you make it out, be sure to look us up. We will be jammin'
